The excise house is one of the most impenetrable fortresses this side of the Yetzin valley.
A family of Dwarves from Clan Starforger were rewarded with stewardship for aiding Yetzinburg in it's early days. In time, the dwarfs (having much more knowledge on defense) began to modify and "improve the building". Slowly, the building became more and more fortress like, but all the while it became more and more impregnable.
There have been many petitions that the building looks too ugly, and looks too out of place, but the dwarfs answer these remarks with "This is nay an art gallery!"
Primary defenses
The walls are polished black stone, so thick that it is rumored they can take cannon fire without much harm.
The doors are made of forged steel, with great gromril hinges set into the stone. Obviously the doors open out wards, and the portal which you must pass through to enter is smaller than the doors themselves, meaning it is physically impossible to knock the doors through in-wards. The doors are easily large enough for a large cart to pass through.
The second is floor designed with defense in mind, with a gap between the floor and the roof running around the building on all four sides, this allows the defenders to view (and shoot) in all directions without any blind spots. Barbed wire surrounds all the windows and firing spots.
Secondary Defenses[/u]
If, by some improbable occurrence, the primary defenses are breached, the intruders will have another set of tests in order to enter further to wards the vaults.
Once through the first door the invaders enter a large corridor in which there are fifteen
human spear-men with tower shields and heavy armour posted here at all times all times. The corridor is approximately ten foot tall, sixteen foot wide and a hundred yards long.
In this room, there is the highly sceptically a dwarf receptionist, Thrar Starforger, although this sounds particularly ridiculous, those who fail to tell the seriousness of the situation find out too late the rifle hidden under his desk.
If your application is approved, Thrar will usher you on through the door on the RIGHT, which leads to the vault, and your transaction application papers will be posted through the door on the LEFT.
In the door to the left, there is the vast and highly detailed filing and paperwork system that involves over fourty humans, collecting, dating, filing, copying and archiving all the transactions that happen in the excise building in a day. At the end of the day, this information is compiled onto one sheet of paper which is painstakingly studied by Krag Starforger. If the old dwarf finds no fault in the paperwork, he gives it his stamp and it is placed into the archives.
The door on the right leads to the next corridor, and the vaults.
Tertiary Defenses
Once a person manages to get this far, they will come into a massive hollowed out room, and hanging between the top and bottom floor via as system of girders and massive chains, the inner vaults are suspended.
On the bottom floor, two units of tunnel fighters are constantly on hand, in addition to a unit of spear-men guarding the stair to the guards quarters.
On the roof area, a crossbowman guard maintains constant vigilance over the town.
The corridor runs on into the vaults, into one last room, where three of the eldest Starforger dwarfs check admittance applications. If, and only if you manage to pass through these levels of defenses, you will be admitted into the bank vaults, and when you do, you will be accompanied by armed guards.
