Sven sat gloomily in the watch house. A "doktor" was stiching up the wound in his back after examining the wound and declaring that it hadn't punctured anything vital. He had already stiched up the gash on Sven's cheeck and had also re-wrapped the bandages on his leg. Sven hadn't got the bill yet, but he expected the worst.
Just as the doktor finished, a watchman marched in. "Sven, is it? We've got the people we arrested from the brawl lined up. See if you can tell us if you recognize any of them."
Sven nodded and got to his feet, grabbing his mail coat as he did so. The doktor started to protest Sven moving, but naturally he was ignored. Still, he followed Sven, as he hadn't been paid yet.
Sven was led outside, where twenty young men were lined up against a wall, under guard by a dozen armed watchmen. Sven limped his way along the line, looking at the bruised and battered men. Most of them he didn't recognize, two of them he did. One of them was the talkative driver and the second was one of the mounted guards from the caravan. Sven pointed them out and then turned to the watchman.
"What'll ye do with 'em?"
"Well, we'll see what we can get out of them, like where their friends went. If they cooperate they might live. It really depends on what the captain says."
"I've got a grudge against all o' them. If ye find out anything, tell me. I shouldn't be hard to find."
From behind him the doktor cleared his throat loudly.
"Aye, I know ye be there. How much?"
"Well, twenty crowns in all."
Seeing the look on Sven's face he quickly continued.
"You see, it's five crows for stiching, and I did that twice. A crown for bandaging your leg, three crowns for the consultation three crowns for disenfecting your wounds, and I did that three times."
Sven sighed and nodded. He pulled out his purse of gold and slowly counted out the money and then reluctantly handed them over. He then turned back to the watchman.
"I'll be in the headless orc for awhile, resting up. If ye find any news on the rest o' them, tell me. I'll save ye the trouble o' killing them. Aye?"
"I can't promise you anything, but I'll see what I can do."
With a disgruntled grunt Sven turned and limped away back towards the tavern.
