C'mon whose next?? C'mon I could go all day. Throndin stood in the middle of the combat arena used for tactical combat trainings and drills of the Kazad Dawr army.
Throndin spent most of his time here, he wasn't a member of the army, but everyone knew him, more or less because with his father being general not long after his birth to give his mother a break he had been brought here by Varn and shown to his comrades. Unlike most dwarfs who fighted to defend the hold and its business Throndin had inherted a little to much of his father and fought because he enjoyed the feeling. This had resulted in several scouldings from his mother while she bandaged his wounds and punishing labour from his father when he was sent to help the miners in the tunnels below.
Throndin sort for adventure, and would what time he didn't spend here or at home, he would be in the tavern listening to the old longbeards recounting tales of their fathers and the legends of the ancestors gods and the great wars of the dwarfs.
He turned and smiled as someone entered the arena brandishing a training weapon and shield, Throndin turned and brandished his own,You've recovered from last time Durin?? Throndin chided.
Watch yourself Throndin, I don't want to do extra patrols for sending his son to the Temple of Valleya. Durin bellowed back the challenge.
The two charged another and the sound of leather on wood bounced around the arena. The practive weapons were basically axes made with heavier wood and metal than usual and made top heavy, this was to help build up strength, the blades were blunted and a mixture of leather and wax would cover them to stop any real harm being done. The shields were round with the normal metal bosses, but rather than battle shields that were covered with hide rims and cloth, these were just plain wood, but again heavier than normal.
Throndin pushed aside a blow with his shield and returned the compliment only to be blocked itself, During lifted his shield on the point that Throndin impacted, sending his axe to hit the boss square and bounce off to the side throwing him off balence, Durin seeing the advantage quickily followed up and dealt Throndin a powerful Blow, lifting his shield he blocked the blow but the force was so heavy he lost his footing and fell heavily on his back.
During followed up to try and finish him off but Throndin again lifted his shield and blocked the blow, Durin laughed as he brought his axe down only to be blocked again and again, by Throndin's shield. Using the "beard" of the axe During hooked the shield under the axe and pulled it aside, he planned to hold Throndin's arm down with his leg, while he finished him off. What he din't expect was that as soon as he pulled Throndin's shield aside, Throndin thrust his axe using the top of the head straight under Durin's ribs. Durin's eyes widened and dropping his shield and axe he fell sideways to the floor clutching his chest and panting for air. Throndin pulled himself up and stood over Durin, who was just managing to breath again. Throndin extended a hand and helped Durin to his feet,Nice move their Durin, who taught you how to deflect blows like that with your shield??
Durin looked at him and laughed,Reigar in the warrior regiment over there. Good ain't it, almost had you there.
Almost did, Throndin admited,I wasn't expecting my last blow to do that though.
Bloomin, knocked the breath out of me, if you had hit my ribs that fight would have been mine, you went between them. Now your only one fight behind me.
Don't worry a couple more and I'll be infront of you.
The two dwarfs walked off together towards a nearby bench, laughing. Though Durin was ten or so years older the two dwarfs often spent time together and had formed a good friendship, sometimes getting each other into trouble. One time they tried to hold up a regiment training together they lost the fight of course, but still inflicted some healthy bruises. That had resulted in four weeks down the mines from his father Varn, for 'Interfearing with essential training of Kazad dawr forces'.
