The dwarf Yazeran was in many ways the founder of Eyrie. HE found a collection of ramshackle huts on top of the a montains, and left behind him a fortified monastary of Verena. Its library has grown to one of the major collections of knowledge in the Old World, and fees and donations from those who use the library provide the monastery with the bulk of its income.
Some of the wealthy and noble families of the southern part of the Empire send their sons to Eyrie. Novices are given an education and some basic military training before being sent out into the world. Thorse who retained some attachment to the monastery spend their time travelling in search of new itmes fro the library, and new recruits for the monastery itself.

As the community at Eyrie is relatively small, most of the monks are known only by their first names. When travelling, they will use the surname 'of Eyrie' when they are asked. Not all the monks are clerics. In fact, very few are. The monastery is a self contained community, and all the monks have their own function within it. they are treated as following a career at the same time as being a monk- for example monk/scholar, or monk/artisan or whatever.

Gregor, Roostmaster of Eyrie
Gregor is 73 years old, and somewhat eccentric. He is seldom seen out of his quaters except at meal times, and leaves the monastery to run itself.
A wizened old man with rheumy eyes and wispy white hair, Gregor is prone to mumbling, and often rambles in his speech. sometimes he forgets what he is saying and trails off into silence. But it is not true that he is mentally incapable, he can still terrify a novice at a hundred paces and he knows the monastery and its rituals like the back of his hand. Its just that his concentration fails him sometimes, and he'd far rather be taking a nap in any case...
Gregor will not feel like talking ot adventurers after the first meeting, unlest they insist that it is vital to Eyrie itself.
Norbert, Flagmaster of Eryie
Norbert is a slightly rotund, red faced man in his early fifties. He has a blustering manner of speaking, and often seems to be a little out of breath. As flagmaster, he is second in command of the monastery, and has taken over nearly all the day to day running of Eyrie from Gregor. He demands the respect due to his high office, and confidently expects to become Roostmaster next. He is not impatient though, as he effectively rules the roost already.
Norber takes a particuraly keen interest in the monastery's finances, and has been guilty of diverting funds into his own pocket. He has little confidence in superstiation, as he is more of a secular person.
Scar, Guard Captain
Udo Schwerner is universally known by his nickname-a long vivid scar runs from forehead to jaw just to the left of his nose. Scar is a powerful man in his late forties, and his left arm is replaced by a wooden club with two peg 'fingers' protruding at right angles from the end. He has developed a remarkable degree of dexterity with this crude artificial limb, and gained a good eight inches extra reach in the bargain.
He is in a ideal position for a retired mercenary, he works at a place where there is little likelihood of attack, most of the monks believe his tallest tales of battle, and he can beat any man in a brawl.
Scar acts and thinks like the senior veteran that he is. He has an open mind to superstion and legend, but reasons if an attack is to come strength of arms will win, not anything else. He also believes that Eyries will be easy to defend and that he does not need help to do it.
