The high King declares the assault utterly intolerable when the dwarf settlement of Mingol Norn is razed to the ground.

Dwarf High King Gotrek Starbreaker sends an ambassador to Ulthuan. Dwarf demands for fair recompense for Elf hostilities met with arrogance and ambassador thrown out.
The Phoenix king declares he will not accept demands, but will accept a plea for aid. King Starbreaker answers that he begs to neither king nor god, and asks for double the first demand in compensation.
As a final insult Elves shave off Dwarf ambassador's beard hence the war is known as the War of the Beard by the Elves. In anwer, the dwarfs cut down an entire virgin forest, hoping for elven retaliation, when the elves fail to react, the dwarf march on to besiege the elven cities of the old world.
The Dwarfs refer to the war as the War Against the Elves or the War of Vengeance.

At this Conclave of Light, plans for the defence of the Empire are laid out, and ancient alliances are renewed.

The Conclave of Light
Karl Franz hosts a grand Conclave of Light at his capital of Altdorf and invites heads of state from across the Old World to a conference where he explains the situation of Archaon's invasion and asks for aid. The Dwarfs and High Elves pledge to assist the Empire in its time of need, as do many others, such as the Tzarina of Kislev. At this Conclave of Light, plans for the defence of the Empire are laid out, and ancient alliances are renewed.
